What are LEDs?
Light emitting diodes, commonly called LEDs is an electronic light source.  They are tiny light bulbs that easily fit into an electrical circuit.  They do not have a filament that will burn out and they do not get especially hot.  They last just as long as a standard transistor. 

Why should I choose LED lighting?
To put it simply, LEDs offer more bang for the buck.  LEDs present many advantages over traditional light sources, including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, improved robustness, smaller size and faster switching.  There are endless lighting applications for LEDs.  These light bulbs burn very cool, while incandescent bulbs emit 98% of their energy as heat.  Each LED buld has a life cycle of 25,000 hours.  Incandescent light bulbs typically last around 1,000 hours and fluorescents are good for roughly 10,000 hours.  LED lights have no fragile filament to contend with and no fragile tube.  They are resistant to heat, cold and shock.  Also, LED lights will not attract bugs.

Is Micro Star™ lighting water resistant?
Micro StarTM railing and multi-purpose lights feature a 316 stainless steel housing for maximum corrosion resistance.

What is the voltage?  Is it AC or DC?
Our low voltage LEDs require the use of a DC transformer. This will ensure proper installation and will provide years of service and reliability with optimal results. Using an AC transformer will result in flickering of the lights and pre-mature burn-outs.

NOTE: RailEasy™ 18W Post Cap requires a 12v AC power source capable of delivering 18 watts of power per light.  4 lights will require a 72 watt low voltage AC transformer.

 

Are the LEDs offered in different colors?
Micro StarTM LEDs are offered in a variety of colors based on the application. Post cap lights, railing lights and edge lights feature bright white LEDs due to the nature of their end use. These products are typically used in commercial and residential applications where the clean look of white lighting does not distract from the elements they are designed to illuminate. However, the multi-purpose line of LED lighting is offered in a variety of colors to meet any design need.

What type of wiring is used?
The Micro StarTM LED products featured on this website are supplied with coated 22 gauge low voltage copper wiring. The LED and 18W post cap products feature fittings on the end of each wire for easy connection.

What type of transformer is required?
Almost all of the LED lighting featured on this website is designed for use with our 12 Volt/ DC Micro StarTM Transformer. However, there are a few 24 Volt Micro StarTM LEDs that require a 24 Volt/ DC transformer.
 

How much lighting does it provide?
Micro StarTM lighting products provide sufficient levels of lighting to illuminate stairs, walkways, railings, decks, fences, landscapes and much more.  The 9 Star Cluster and the RailEasy™ 18w Post Cap provides excellent lighting.
