Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about the Micro Star™ product line:

Light emitting diodes, commonly called LEDs, are an electronic light source. LEDs work by passing an electrical current through a microchip, which causes the tiny light emitting diodes to illuminate. LEDs do not have a filament that will burn out and they do not get especially hot. They last just as long as a standard transistor.

LEDs present many advantages over traditional light sources, including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, improved robustness, smaller size, and faster switching.

LED lights give off a small fraction of the heat that incandescent lights produce, making them safer in many instances. LEDs are also resistant to heat, cold, and shock and they will not attract bugs.

LEDs can be used in a number of different applications. Because of their small size, they can be combined to form a traditional bulb, used in isolation, or strung in a sequence.

Micro Star™ lighting products are water resistant and feature a 316 stainless steel housing for maximum corrosion resistance.

The voltage is 12 volts.

Our LEDs require the use of a DC transformer. This will ensure proper installation and will provide years of service and reliability with optimal results. Using an AC transformer will result in flickering of the lights and pre-mature burn-outs.

Micro Star™ LEDs are offered in a variety of colors based on the application. Post cap lights, railing lights, and edge lights feature bright white LEDs due to the nature of their end use. These products are typically used in commercial and residential applications where the clean look of white lighting does not distract from the elements they are designed to illuminate. However, the multi-purpose LED lighting products are offered in a variety of colors to meet any design need.

We recommend using the Micro Star™ Wiring Harnesses for all Micro Star™ LED solutions. However, the Micro Star™ LED products featured on this website can be used with coated 22 gauge low voltage copper wiring.

All of our lighting should only be used with a DC transformer.

Almost all of the LED lighting featured on this website is designed for use with our 12 Volt/DC Micro Star™ Transformer. It is a 5 amp transformer that can be plugged into your 100-240Vac – 50/60HZ power source.

There are 24 Volt Micro Star™ LEDs that require you to source your own 24 Volt/DC transformer.

Micro Star™ lighting products provide sufficient levels of lighting to illuminate stairs, walkways, railings, decks, fences, landscapes, and many more interior or exterior lighting applications.
